During all of the hustle and bustle of life, sometimes it's easy to forget that our men and women are still in Iraq doing a job. I find myself forgetting from time to time because I don't watch much television and the events that unfolded after 9-11 seem to have happened so long ago. However, here's a little reminder I received this morning that the good folks are still fighting the good fight, and they still think about their sport trucks waiting back home (and our cover models!):
I am a private contractor working in Iraq (Na, I'm not looking for a hand-out). I enjoy your mag. I also use its articles as I restore/customize my '79 C10. I am the second owner and decided it was time to give it a little oomph. Anyway, sir, I have enclosed a picture of the inside of my "office" (inside of an armored Suburban). Like every office, you need a calendar, and mine is from January-and I ain't getting rid of it. I have started a collection of your pinup calendars. Miss Ashley is my favorite, though. OK, so I do want to ask you for something. Do you think she would ever be interested in modeling on my truck when I get it done? Anyway, sir, thank you for your time. Great magazine-I pick it up every month at the PX. Keep up the good work!
The odds are good that this magazine will go to print and somehow make it into your hands before you are done working in the sand. Thanks for the letter and thanks for your hard work and patriotism. When you are finished with your Chevy, send me another e-mail and I'll see if I can work something out. Miss Ashley seemed to be everyone's favorite model from 2007, and you never know-if your truck comes out cool enough, maybe we can persuade her to pose for a few pictures.
