The drag racing made up for the lack of show n shine participants. The bracket eliminations took place the entire weekend and many trucks ran good quarter-mile times.
There were plenty of neat and strange trucks at the Moroso show, including this F-350 limo complete with entertainment center inside.
Our friends from the Trucks television show were also in attendance, gathering video for an upcoming segment.
Looking down two jet engines is neat, but you dont want to stand behind them when theyre lit. The Moroso Jet & Truck drags brought out several jet trucks and show vehicles.
The Tropical Heat S-10 is one of the quickest jet trucks around. This truck hit a small bump on the track at 248 mph and nearly went airborne.
Les Shockleys Shockwave pickup managed to light-up the track with fire breathing launches. Who would have thought a 57 Chevy could run 175 mph in the quarter?
One of the most entertaining groups at the event was the Miami Zoo Crew. Their bikes, as well as their S-10, are covered in various animal skins and they go up and down the track performing incredible stunts and burnouts.
The Heartbeat High S-10 driven by Pete Hoeneck did several wheel-standing runs down the track.
Some local Dodge Dakota R/T club members were bracket-racing their vehicles to win the cash prizes.
Excuse the pun, but there were some pretty hot trucks flying down the Moroso Motorsports dragstrip in West Palm Beach, Florida. Moroso showed that combining jet trucks, sport trucks, and Harley Davidson motorcycles was a great idea. However, nature in all its fury limited the attendance with a slight sprinkle of rain. Funny how it poured in the surrounding areas, but not on the track.
Nevertheless, several thousand people attended and got a great show. The show included the Super Shockwave jet truck, which is a 57 Chevy with twin rockets strapped to the rear and driven by Les Shockley. The 20-foot flames emanating from the truck at the starting line were enough to dry the shirts on the front row of spectators. Rocketing to a 175-mph blast, Shockwave was followed by Tropical Heat, an S-10bodied jet truck driven by Mario Carranca, who ran a 248-mph pass that almost lifted the truck off the ground! Other jet vehicles included Jim Medleys Jet Stream and the Cannonball Express jet truck.
Jet trucks werent the only vehicles accelerating down the quarter-mile track. Many trucks participated in Morosos bracket race. When the competition ended, Jeff Manley from Lake Worth, Florida, took the top honors in the pickup category, and Larry Doty of Margate, Florida, won the SUV bracket.
The show n shine portion of the track didnt have much shine due to the water-soaked clouds. However, there were plenty of vehicles to look at, including Pat and Dennis Wagners 57 Sedan Delivery that took Best of Show on Saturday. Todd Moyer took home the Editors Choice with his 2000 Chevy Xtreme. Gary Barnes of Daytona Beach took Best of Show on Sunday with his 94 Chevy Extended Cab pickup. Best of Show in the Harley Davidson division went to Paul Cisterna of West Palm Beach, Florida.
One of the major show sponsors, Truck & Trailer USA, had a display showing the many truck accessories it offers. Also attending the show were our friends from the Trucks television show on TNN. They took lots of video featuring the jet trucks and the show n shine trucks on display, and they also conducted interviews with the drivers.
One of the nicest trucks we saw at the event was Jason Browns twin-turbo Ford Lightning. Jason had some 7.88 at 179 mph timeslips to show us, but couldnt run due to a leaking fuel pump. We managed to click some photos of the truck for a later issue.
The Moroso Motorsports park is one of the nicest places to have a show, with trees lining the track, plenty of grass areas, and spaces for vendors and displays.
