For many years now, Hal Johnson and Godfather Customs in Decatur, Georgia, have been building custom vehicles not only to showcase the products they sell but also to give their customers a clear representation of what their own vehicles can become. Godfather Customs' latest project, a two-tone '03 Chevy S-10 Extended Cab rolling on 22-inch Oasis wheels, hails as yet another testament of the company's unique style and design.
To set the truck down to a more respectable level, Sean "Air Daddy" Kersey and Brian "Donut" Ward began overhauling the suspension. A set of DJM drop spindles was installed up front along with Firestone 'bags. Out back, a set of Firestone 'bags and Shockwave shocks was installed, which are fed through 1/2-inch line by a set of Viair 450 compressors that Sean and Brian installed in the bed, along with two Firestone 5-gallon storage tanks. It's all mounted atop a polished slab of diamond plate.

The plan to set the mini-truck down on a set of 22-inch wheels is not unheard of by any means; however, rollin' the largest possible wheels on any truck carries some extra bragging rights. The team decided that a set of Oasis Ludicrous wheels wrapped in Goodyear 285/30R22 rubber would bring some extra attention to the truck, but in order to properly stop the S-10, a brake upgrade would be needed. To eliminate any of those unwanted toboggan runs in the truck, the crew installed a set of Powerslot rotors up front.
The brake job turned out to be essential once Jeff Farmer got his hands on the project. Farmer took the liberty of sewing a few horsepower seeds beneath the hood of Godfather's project vehicle. A Powerdyne supercharger, a Nitrous Express wet kit, an Air Max intake, Taylor plug wires, a Tuff Stuff chrome alternator, and a Superchip were all added to the top of the Vortech 4.3L engine. A set of JBA headers and Borla exhaust were then added to the bottom end.
Once the stance and performance were up to par, all attention was turned to the styling of the truck. Bill Stillwell began by shaving the tailgate handle using a Sir Michaels handle relocator as well as molding in a Sir Michaels roll pan. Up front, a Street Scene lower valance, a smooth wiper cowl, and signal mirrors were bolted on.
After the truck sported a smoother and more defined look, it was taken to Mike Lewis from Gary's Paint and Body where, based on a rendering that Hot Wheels sketched up for Godfather, it received its fresh new look. Using House of Kolor Jet Set Black and Blue Blood Red pigments, Mike sprayed the black and red paint from nose to tail, which incorporates a flowing tribal separation on the sides as well as on the hood. Each lick was then pinstriped in Pearl White with Ice Pearl.
To continue the exterior styling, the Godfather mob installed a set of PIAA driving lights in the lower valance, APC clear corners and Diamond Back headlights up front, APC carbon-fiber taillights, a neon ground kit and flamed LED exhaust tips, as well as a Trenz billet Bow Tie, a billet grille, and Zoops billet wipers.
A Pace Edwards electric tonneau cover was installed in the bed, which not only keeps the Bed rug and Viair compressors and tanks shielded from the elements, it also retracts to display the components during shows.
The inside of the cab was treated to a complete restyling to complement the rest of the project truck. A set of Corbeau adjustable racing seats, Trenz billet pedals, a stainless dash kit, APC Speed-Glo gauges, an Auto Meter gauge pod stuffed with oil and boost gauges, Firestone air pressure gauges, and a Grant steering wheel cover were installed for form and function.
The task of finishing up the project was left to Audio Concepts in Conyers, Georgia, where the truck received a full Alpine sound system. An Alpine CVA1006 head unit and a DVA5205 DVD player were connected using Monster Cable to the Alpine V12 series amps, which were located behind the seats. A set of coaxial speakers mounted in the doors produces the crisp highs, while a set of Alpine subs, which were placed behind the Corbeau buckets, emits the chest-thumping lows.
