Sometimes, chance encounters can turn a plan for a truck from just a clean daily driver into a full-blown custom show-winner. Jeremy Fogleman's super-clean C10 was nothing but a series of chance encounters. Jeremy is not new to the custom world, because his dad has always had show-winning rods and customs. Jeremy got into custom painting while in high school. Originally, the plan was to find a nice clean project truck to use around the shop for parts runs. When he ran across this '83 C10, it was love at first sight.
At first, Jeremy wasn't going to do anything to the truck and was content to have it as a driver. However, since he's a painter by trade, he really couldn't be content rolling around in a truck with stock paint. That's when he decided to take spray gun in hand to apply the two-tone House of Kolor Brandywine and Orion silver paintjob that is broken up with a HOK Lime Green pinstripe. This is all buried with Sikkens clear that was buffed to a mirror shine. He had a slick truck to cruise in, but it looked kind of funny rolling on stock wheels. With all his contacts in the street rod world, nothing would fit his truck better than a set of custom 20-inch Billet Specialties Vintec wheels rolling on Hankook rubber.
Now that he had a clean cruiser, it was time to hit the local cruise spot and see if he could pick up some paint business. That's when he had a run-in with Clayton Doby of Doby's Air Suspension in Burlington, North Carolina. Clayton saw the truck's potential when it first rolled into the parking lot, but Jeremy was not sure about this crazy guy talking about 'bagging, notching, and cutting up his already clean ride. After a few days, the vision that Clayton had planted in his head took root, and he decided to drop his truck off with Clayton to work his suspension magic on the C10.
The truck already had a mild lowering job installed, but Clayton pretty much threw away everything, save for the dropped DJM spindles in the front. The truck now rides on Air Lift 2700 'bags on all four corners with chrome shocks to keep the ride smooth, since this truck was to be a driver. Out back, Clayton custom-fabbed a C-notch for the truck and added an independent tech C-notch for stability.
When Jeremy got the truck back, he took it to a show and finished pretty well, but he still felt he needed to add a few more custom touches to catch the eyes of the judges. He pulled the interior out and shipped it over to Jimmy's Interiors in Burlington to have the interior pieces covered in a charcoal vinyl. In the meantime, he ordered everything he could find in billet for the interior. As the interior was going back together, he decided to pull the tired old motor and go through it. They bumped it up to a 355ci engine and added a Lunati cam for that added lope while driving through the cruise lanes.
Jeremy's C10 was finished in time to debut at a large local show, where the truck won not only Best Paint but Best of Show, as well. This truck goes to show how easy it is to go from being a daily driver shop truck to a full-blown, laid-out, Best of Show-winning truck just by having a few chance encounters with the right people.
