We here at Sport Truck see a lot of custom trucks, as you might imagine, but every so often we come across one that blows a little wind up our skirts. That is the case with this 98 S-10 owned by Trevor Kean of Yorba Linda, California. His S-10 combines ideas from the past, like molding and shaving, with an almost obsessive-compulsive cleanliness. Trevor wanted his rig to turn heads and be different, but at what cost? Two years and a bunch of money is what it took to satisfy Trevors goal.
One of the first noticeable differences between Trevors ride and the norm of today is his use of hydraulics instead of airbags. Master Image Customs masterfully (excuse the pun) installed the juice setup. On top of having four corner 10-inch chrome cylinders, the truck also received 2-inch DJM spindles, Toxic Shocks, and MICs custom step notch. With Hydros you need pumps and batteries. Instead of just putting them wherever they would fit, MIC built a custom rack that holds the batteries under the bed floor and artfully mounted the pumps to the custom crossmember. To complement MICs bitchin work, Trevor invested in 18- and 20-inch Lexani wheels and Falken 35-series rubber.
The talented staff at Anaheim Prestige took on the task of doing the custom body and paint. The tailgate and door handles were thrown out and the holes filled along with eliminating the taillights. The rear bumper was replaced by a Cal Combo roll pan with custom LEDs. Then they tackled the most impressive part of the bodywork, the inside of the bed. The tailgate was welded shut and the inside was smoothed out. From the inner quarters to the wheelwells no panel was left unaltered. With all new sheetmetal welded in and smoothed out, the truck was wheeled into the paint booth and Ricky Sepulveda squirted the DuPont Emerald Green base and the Moss Green pearl flames buried in about a mile of clear.
Trevor, not afraid of getting his own hands sticky, did the interior himself. He cut the stock seats down and then covered everything in gray tweed with the green flame accents, including the dash. Some chrome billet pieces and a LeCarra wheel were added to set off the sea of green and gray tweed. Advantage Audio in Brea, California, installed the Pioneer head unit with a 12-disc changer, Kicker amps, and a custom enclosure which houses six 12-inch kicker subs.
Under the hood youll find a K&N air filter, a custom polished A/C condenser and lines, and MICs yellow dress-up kit. A 2-inch Gibson exhaust system was installed to evacuate the spent gases and give the truck a throaty, but not obnoxious, tone. One of the last modifications Trevor has made to this emerald S-series was a MICs Fast Flames grille insert.
What pushes people to alter or customize their machines? Vitamin deficiencies, chemical imbalance, or just the need to be noticed? We dont know for sure, but either way we all play the same game. Some just play harder than others.
