Future Feature?
Nineteen-year-old Cameron "Cam" Lindsey is a pretty active guy. Not only is he a full-time culinary arts student and a volunteer firefighter, he's also a gearhead. Somewhere in that busy schedule he finds time to wrench on this '88 Dodge D-150. Obviously he's not one to back down from a challenge because there aren't a lot of parts available for these trucks. All of that work will pay off in spades when it's finished though because he will have an old school Dodge in a sea of Bow Ties.
Eddie, Cam's father, lit the fuse on the gearhead firecracker when Cam was about 14. Now, they both are getting their hands dirty on the D-150. After laying down 1,450 bucks to buy the truck, the two got busy making it driveable. The original motor was replaced with an earlier '78 360ci V-8 punched out 0.040 over. Cam and Eddie stuffed a Comp Cams camshaft inside the block and topped it off with an Edelbrock Performer intake and carb combo. A Mopar Performance ignition system was put in place to fire the fuel, while a set of shorty headers and a pair of 3-inch Flowmasters take care of the spent gasses. An A-518 overdrive transmission coupled with a 3.91 Posi rearend helps the truck cruise on the highway and leave two fat black marks when Cam wants to show off.
Once it ran, the focus was turned to the body. Cam shaved the handles, taillights, and tailgate handle smooth and installed a Mar K roll pan with LED lights as a first step. Then, he picked up a shaker hoodscoop from a '70s 'Cuda and made it work with his stock truck hood. A little skillful work with a saw and a carb riser got that handled. A custom DuPont Vivid Blue paintjob and metallic silver painted trim is in the works, but for now Cam's rockin' the gray primer.
Next up was the stance, and nothing less than laid out over a set of 20s would work for Cam's Dodge. Cam ordered up a bunch of universal airbag stuff from Chassis Tech and got busy modifying it. Cam and his dad not only reworked the brackets, they also massaged the factory control arms to fix the ball-joint angle and steering arm clearance issues. A set of 2,500-pound 'bags and Doetsch Slammer shocks raise and lower the front suspension. Out back, the father and son team installed a universal four-link, 3-inch notch, a set of 2,500-pound 'bags, and Doetsch Slammer shocks. Two DC5000 compressors, a few feet of 3/8-inch airline, and two Optima BlueTop batteries supply the 'bags with what they need. To add a little shine to the stance, Cam picked up a set of 20x8.5 Boss 304 rims wrapped in 255/45R20 Toyo rubber.
Moving inside, you will find a set of '03 Dodge Ram seats covered in two-tone blue and silver carbon-fiber-type material and a black carpet kit, which was done by Ruben Morher. The rest of the interior mods were done by Cam and Eddie, but this time they got help from Cam's mom, Teresa Lindsey. She fabricated the custom gauge panel to house the Cyberdyne Blue Ice gauges, while the boys smoothed and painted everything else silver. Tunes in the cab come via a Pioneer head unit and 6x9s in the doors. To add a little more thump, Cam had his buddy Adam built a box to hold two 12-inch Kicker CRV subwoofers that are powered by a 1,300-watt MTX amplifier.
Obviously there are still more mods to be done by Cam and his family crew, but that will come when there is less food to cook and all of the fires are out.
