Pioneering Electronics
Pioneer Electronics became part of history at the 2005 USACi and IdBL World Finals in Kansas City, Missouri. Here's a wrap-up of the event.
Scott Owens, SPL competitor and team member of Edge Audio, became the first person to ever break the 180 decibels barrier using Pioneer Premier subwoofers and amplifiers, at the 2005 combined USACi and IdBL World Finals in Kansas City, making his '02 Ford F-250 vehicle "the loudest car in the world." Owens broke this landmark result a total of four times-twice hitting 180.3 dB in the IdBL (IASCA dB League) competition and twice achieving 180.5dB in the USACi Legal World Record event using the official B&K microphone. Combined with setting a new dB Drag Racing World Record with a 177.9dB score, Owens has achieved the rare "Triple Crown"-holding the World Records and loudest overall results in all three major SPL organizations (IdBL, USACi, and dB Drag Racing).
"Breaking the 180 dB barrier is a monumental achievement for the Edge Audio team, Pioneer, and the history of the SPL sport," said Owens. "I knew the system had the capacity to establish a World Record, but breaking the marker was absolutely phenomenal. It was just a matter of time, and now we're the only ones on top. It's like climbing Mount Everest."
Owens '02 Ford F-250 SPL vehicle houses 13 Pioneer Premier TS-W5000SPL subwoofers powered by 52 Premier PRS-D5000SPL amplifiers, 88 16-volt Kinetik batteries and three Ohio Generator 285-amp alternators.
Constructed from the frame up by Owens, his system generates more than 115,000 watts of power, to create sound pressure levels above 180 dB, equivalent to a rocket launching. Pioneer dedicated engineering power to produce a line of subwoofers and amplifiers that can withstand the most punishing applications like SPL competitions making them virtually indestructible.
Kyle Witherspoon, Edge Audio team member, also generated news by taking the championship in IdBL Ultimate 1 class and dB Drag.He competes with an '04 Scion xB that holds two Pioneer Premier TS-W5000SPL subwoofers powered by eight Pioneer Premier PRS-D5000SPL amplifiers, 24 Kinetic batteries, and three Ohio Generator 250-amp alternators, producing more than 24,000 watts of power.
