Toyota Stepping Up The GameToyota has expanded the Tundra fullsize pickup truck lineup for 2008, adding 13 new model variations and enhancing standard equipment levels to create a greater value. The '08 Tundra now offers a choice of 44 model variations in three cab styles. Since its introduction in February of 2007, Tundra's share of the 1/2-ton fullsize pickup truck segment has more than doubled, going from 8 to 17 percent. The Tundra has been an outstanding success for Toyota. Despite tough market conditions, the Tundra retail sales were up 57.9 percent through September, and Toyota is on track to achieve 200,000 unit sales for 2007. The biggest change for the '08 Tundra is the increased availability of the two most popular cab styles, Double Cab and CrewMax, in the newly named Tundra Grade, which increases their appeal to price-conscious customers. Previously, these four-door models were available only in the intermediate SR5 and top-line Limited Grades. The new Tundra Grade, positioned just below the SR5, is equipped with all of the key standard features consumers expect in a truck. Toyota is strengthening the value of the Tundra SR5 Grade Double Cab and CrewMax by increasing standard equipment. For 2008, these models include the previously optional power bucket front seats, AM/FM stereo with six-disc CD changer, cold kit, heated mirrors, and mud guards as standard at a lower price than for a similarly equipped '07 model.
New Gm Hybrid Delivers As Much As 25 Percent Improved Fuel EconomyChevy takes another leap forward in 2008 with the introduction of the Tahoe/ Yukon Hybrid. It features the world's first production 2-Mode full-hybrid propulsion system, which offers a 25-percent overall improvement in fuel economy and as much as 30 percent during certain driving conditions when running on pure electricity.Better still, the fuel-saving advantages of the hybrid are balanced with a superior driving experience and uncompromised capability. The Tahoe and Yukon Hybrids' 6.0L V-8 engine is equipped with the GM Active Fuel Management system, which disengages half of the engine's cylinders when full engine power is not needed, allowing the engine to move seamlessly from V-8 to V-4 on driving demands.Electric-only propulsion is available to 30 mph, which is key to reducing fuel consumption in heavy stop-and-go traffic. Electric power assists the engine to save fuel during brisk acceleration or additional pulling power for towing. During vehicle deceleration, fuel is cut off to the engine and the hybrid system's battery pack isrecharged via regenerative braking.
