Gauges
The cluster features a simple and easy to read layout that covers the necessary vitals like speed and RPMs. The gauges are illuminated in a nice amber color and there is even a digital display that will tell you things like distance-to-empty and instant MPG.
Suzuki was nice enough to loan us one of the company's new Equator trucks to drive and give it the Sport Truck treatment. We are going to transform this truck into a corner-carving beast that will have enough power to fry the tires at will and still look good parked at the show. We're going to add a full Stillen power package, which includes an intercooled supercharger and a high-flow exhaust system. For the suspension, we're going to have Shaughn Reid and the crew at Streetshock rip out the factory stuff and fabricate a full QA1 coilover setup with a four-link out back. Max at Bio Kustomz will do his magic on the spindles for a few more inches of drop and some Toyo rubber on 20-inch MB Gunner wheels will round out the suspension. To add some flash to go along with our power and handling, Eightball Rods and Choppers and Steve Vandemon are going to sand, tape, and paint a new two-tone scheme on the truck.

Truck Bed
The bed not only features a factory spray-in bed liner, but there is also a track system with movable cleats to make securing cargo nice and easy.
Before any of that happens, we drove the truck in stock trim and were very impressed. The truck is based off the Nissan Frontier platform, so the performance is pretty much the same, but the exterior styling has been changed a bit. Suzuki decided to make the front end of the truck look a little more truck-like and we think it's an improvement over the Nissan. Powering the Equator is a 24-valve DOHC 4.0L V-6 that puts out 261 hp to the flywheel, which is backed by a five-speed automatic transmission. This combination makes for one very peppy truck that not only has plenty of power, but also scored an average of 19 mpg even with our heavy feet.

Out back, the tailgate has also been redesigned to be smooth and simple. The handle is lockable so you wont have to worry about the Frontier owners tiring to swipe your smooth gate.

The 2009 Suzuki Equator Wheel And Tire
Our truck came with these 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in P265/65R17 BFGoodrich Long Trail or P265/75R16 BFGoodrich Rugged Trail tires. The truck also has a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that warns us when our tires need a little air.

The steering wheel has a bunch of buttons that make using the audio system much easier. There is even a button to activate the BlueTooth system for hands-free calling. Tunes come via a nine-speaker AM / FM / CD Rockford Fosgate audio system. The in-dash six-CD changer head unit will play MP3 / WMA and normal files, is XM Satellite Radio ready, and has an Aux input jack for your iPod or MP3 player. Suzuki included a powered subwoofer under the rear seat to add a little more boom to the system.

The basic shape of the truck is the same as the Nissan, but the grill, headlights, and fascia have been redesigned. We think it looks a lot more truck-like, which is a welcome change. You can get the truck in either extended cab or crew cab configuration.

The 2009 Suzuki Equator Engine
Powering the Equator is an aluminum 4.0L, 24-valve DOHC V-6 with Variable Valve Timing that is rated to 261 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. The engine feels mellow at first and then at about 3,000 rpm it comes alive and starts pulling pretty dang hard. The five-speed automatic transmission snaps through the gears and gets you up to speed before you know it.
