Connect the Dots 19a. This Comp Cams adjustable timing set was held in place with three retaining bolts that are each coated in thread-locking compound. The fourth bolt (arrow) was used to adjust cam timing in 1-degree increments. With the lower gear set at zero degrees and the timing chain centered, our cam was degreed-in at 111 degrees. Steve also checked the piston-to-deck height, which helped him determine the piston-to-valve clearance. Ours was a scant 0.0115, which is just enough to keep the valves from contacting the slugs.
