26. Scosche offers three different styles for the install panel. The factory-matched silver, single-DIN installation kit is the one we used. Scosche also offers a black single-DIN kit, and a double ISO-DIN in silver, if you have a full-screen unit that requires a double-DIN. Additional features of the Scosche Toyota Tacoma kit include a large molded pocket for a little storage space and a rear support bracket for strength.

29. Now it's time for the head unit. The DEH-P5800MP features 50 watts of clean MOSFET power, deep-blue OEL display with screensavers, and background videos. Playback includes MP3, WMA, and normal CD format, plus it's ready for Satellite Radio (XM or Sirius)-we chose Sirius. Because this unit will play MP3 format discs, we can have one CD with about a 150 songs on it. The unit also has BMX (Bit Media eXpander) Digital Enhancement to take that compressed music and adjust it to sound much fuller. All in all, this is a very nice head unit.

30a. Since Scosche builds these to the industry standard, the Pioneer can slide right in the opening with no problem. Once the can assembly is in, Adam bent the little tabs that are scattered around it, locking it into place. Once that was done, the head unit slid in, completing the assembly.

31. Man, does it look nice, especially when you take into account that it all kind of just snaps together. Now the unit is ready to be placed in the truck but not before Adam ran the wiring for the Sirius box.

32. Sirius recommends mounting the antenna on the roof of the truck at the back, but Adam, after numerous installations, says he has no problem with dropping the signal with it placed on the dash. To do that, the pillar must be removed to run the antenna wire. The grab handle has two 10mm bolts behind the little covers on the face. Just pull those out and take off the pillar.

36. The SIR-PNR1 Sirius Satellite Radio tuner is compatible with SAT Radio Ready and most IP-Bus Pioneer head units. Combined with a Pioneer head unit and activation, the SIR-PNR1 tuner accesses Sirius Satellite Radio's 120 channels of coast-to-coast digital-quality broadcasts. Pioneer head units will display the channel, artist, album, and song names with scrolling text.

37. There is one connection we have to make that will require us to strip back two wires. We need to tap the harness for power and ground of the Sirius unit. Adam showed us how to do it without cutting through the wire. He started by cutting through the insulation about 1/2 inch apart. Then, he separated the wire in the middle and fed the Sirius end through it.

Firing Up the Sirius
Here are the steps to hook up your satellite account.
* Turn on the head unit and select the External setting via the source button.
* The tuner will read "updating."
* While that is happening, write down the SID number printed on the boxand keep it handy.
* Wait till the unit displays the "Call 1-888-539-SIRIUS to subscribe."
* Call the number and pick a plan. We went with the six-month plan that cost us $12.95 a month.
* You can also do this online, but since the unit must beon to receive the updated signal, it's easier to do via the phone sitting in the driver seat.
