The Parts
Before any job gets started it's always a good idea to have all the parts ready to go. Here's a breakdown on what we got from Brothers and Goodmark to finish our door job.

1. Here is the new door we...

1. Here is the new door we got from Goodmark Industries. It's new, it's straight, and it's rust free-three great things to say when you are talking sheetmetal.

2. Chevy trucks are notorious...

2. Chevy trucks are notorious for eating door hinges because of the weight of the door. These are from Brothers and feature a nice silver-cadmium plating. Inspect your old ones, and if there is any play or the limit strap is broken, like ours was, pick up a new set.

4. Window regulators on these...

4. Window regulators on these trucks eat the rollers from lack of maintenance (see sidebar). Also, the assist spring can soften up over years of use and make it hard to roll up the window.

5. Much like the window regulators,...

5. Much like the window regulators, these door handle assemblies are a high-wear item and will tend to rattle when you drive.

6. These door latches are...

6. These door latches are just about impossible to restore, unless you consider a fresh coat of paint a restoration.

7. Do we even have to say...

7. Do we even have to say why we are replacing these? Nothing looks better than fresh chrome handles, unless you are shaving yours. They come with the proper gaskets and hardware for the installation.

8. New interior handles make...

8. New interior handles make the interior, well...new.

9. Because we really don't...

9. Because we really don't want to have someone else with a set of keys to our truck, we picked up a new lock set from Brothers.

11. As the felts, rubber squeegees,...

11. As the felts, rubber squeegees, and window channels age, they dry out and harden, limiting their sealing capabilities.

12. Since we are installing...

12. Since we are installing just about everything new, the panels are no exception. We ordered the panels with the chrome channel. The panels are in black pickle primer.

13. The last of the parts...

13. The last of the parts are the armrests. These are made of urethane and a solid black material, so as they wear they will stay black. These are the smaller '67 units; the '68-and-later versions are much bigger but install in the same holes, so if you want to run the bigger ones you can.
