The Best Technical Articles of 2007 - Cream of the Crop
Calin's '68 C10 The first appearance of the '68 was in May, where Calin restored the truck in 28 days with a 9,000-dollar budget. With the help of family and friends, he got the truck done just in time for the transmission to crap out. He got that fixed with the help of California Performance Transmission, and the truck was driving fine for a day or two. The truck now sits at the shop, waiting for Calin to fix the rearend; the ring-and-pinion is shot. There will be a story on how to rebuild a dead rearend-heck, he might even toss in a set of 4:56 gears and add a posi. That will complement the Yenko-inspired big-block that will eventually find its way under the hood. | The Big-Block From Hell Don't think we are just a bolt-on magazine. Back in May, we built a big-block Chevy from scratch. There was so much info in the story, you really should give it a good read. The short of it is: The motor made 1,060 hp at 7,200 rpm and 827.5 lb-ft at 5,900 rpm on pump gas with one carb and no nitrous. The story was titled, "The Big-Block From Hell," and we think it's pretty appropriate. | | What Issue:May 2007 | Where You Saw It:Page 90 | Skyjacker Ford F-150 6-Inch Lift Not to leave the Blue Oval boys out of the mix, we lifted an '05 F-150. Adding 6 more inches to the F-150 really makes it look aggressive, and because Skyjacker has been doing this since the '70s, it really works. With the kit, you will actually be able to beat up on the truck and not have it fall apart, especially if you are into jumping stuff. Now by jumping, we mean catching a little air-if you want to jump the Snake River gorge, you better invest in a rocket, a helmet, and an extra set of underwear.Skyjacker Suspensions(318) 388-0816www.skyjacker.com | | What Issue:September 2007 | Where You Saw It:Page 90 |
