With a few hours of work and some new parts, some old parts, a few simple tools, and a trip to the alignment shop, we had it looking a lot better.

Chevy Tahoe Lowering Kit Spindle
1.To start, Terry jacked up the Tahoe and supported the frame with jackstands. Then, he started removing anything that was hooked to the spindle like the tie rods and the brake system. Yes, he is using a Crescent wrench--we told you these were some simple tools.

2.This little bracket sits on the top of the spindle and holds the ABS line. It was removed along with the brake caliper. Terry set the brake caliper on the jack, out of the way, instead of just letting it hang from the brake line.

4.With all of the brakes out of the way, Terry loosened the upper and lower ball joint nuts and whacked the spindle with a hammer. Because the ball joints have a tapered seating arrangement the shock of the hammer blow will usually free them up. If this doesn't work, a pickle fork will be needed, but the hammer almost always works. Because this is a strut-type front suspension, you won't have to worry about the spring flying out or supporting the lower control arm, which makes the new GM design a little easier to work on.

5.The new spindle from McGaughy's has a raised hub location, which prevents using a through bolt on the upper hole. A new stud and lock nut is supplied so you will still have three mounting points on the hub assembly.

6.Other than that little change the spindle will mount up just like factory. McGaughy's spent a lot of time designing this spindle to keep the factory geometry intact, so you will still have a decent turning radius.

7.Here is the new lock nut we mentioned earlier; it will go on the stud while the factory bolts will be used on the two lower holes. A few dabs of Loctite will ensure these don't come loose.

4.The shock extension bolts to the factory shock mount with the provided hardware. The black chunk of metal you see has a threaded hole that matches up to a hole already in the factory shock mount. Once the bolt is installed it will keep the extension from swinging out. Once the bolts were tight, Terry hooked up the shock with the factory hardware. That takes care of the lowering job other than a trip to the alignment shop.
