Custom Paint Job on a 1999 Dodge Dakota R/T - Strong Shade
 1. Moving on to the scallops,... 1. Moving on to the scallops, Steve had a small trick up his sleeve much like the logo. Instead of having a pinstriper outline the scallop for an added cost, he's going to show us a way to do it without a brush. The first step is to paint your desired outline color, black in our case, around the edge of the scallop. 2. Once that dried, Steve... 2. Once that dried, Steve grabbed a roll of his own brand of 1/16-inch V-Tape and butted it up against the original scallop tape laid down earlier. This will cover 1/16-inch of the black around the entire design and much like the logo, the true results won't reveal themselves until we de-mask the truck. We will see a small black pinstripe around the scallop, but it will be under the clear and a lot more cost effective. 3. Now it's time to put some... 3. Now it's time to put some real color onto the scallops. For that we went with Planet Color's Snow White base coat, Burning Ice for the mid coat, and Finish 1 clear coat. 4. Steve mixed the Snow White... 4. Steve mixed the Snow White base coat per the instructions and laid down three light coats with his Iwata W400 spray gun. 5. Then he cleaned his gun... 5. Then he cleaned his gun and mixed a batch of the Burning Ice. This will add a little sparkle to the stripes when the sun hits them. 6. Once all that dried, it... 6. Once all that dried, it was time for the big reveal. Steve says, "When removing masking tape, pull at a 90-degree angle to the surface you are removing it from." 7. After admiring the design... 7. After admiring the design for a few minutes, the truck was masked again, this time for the clear. Steve told us he had to go paint an alien, so Eddy, the hired gun at Eightball, stepped in to lay down a few slick coats of clear. That is the second time Steve took off when it was time to clear something, and we wondered what is the deal with the alien? We'll investigate that more and get back to you.
