The 1967-1972 Chevy C10 shortbed pickups are quickly becoming contemporary classics. A look that&8217s very popular is found on this 1972 Chevy Cheyenne Super Fleetside. The exterior was restored, while the suspension and running gear were updated. A factory red-orange and white two-tone paint scheme was duplicated.

Torque Thrust II wheels are very popular and look great on these trucks. This 1972 runs 15x7 wheels in front and 15x8 in back. The suspension received a 4/6 drop using dropped spindles and lowering coils in front and dropped coils in back. Dropped shocks were also used.

In addition to the relatively stock-looking trucks, there are some radical show trucks being built. This super-slick 1968 GMC is a prime example. The body has been shaved, the bumpers were molded to the body, and a custom grille was fabricated. Air springs were used to achieve the ground-hugging stance. The massive wheels are 20x8 Torque Thrust II in front and 20x10 units in back. The tires are P255/35R20 Bridgestones.

Stepside C10 pickups make great sport trucks too. The stepside bed retains that classic old truck look. This beautiful red 1968 Chevy was a former farm truck. The hood design on the 1967-1968 models has a pronounced slant in the front. This truck has the ever-popular Torque Thrust II wheels in sizes 16x7 and 16x8 with P255/50R16 tires.

The Stepside fenders tend to make these trucks look shorter than the Fleetsides, but both have 6-1/2-foot longbeds. This truck has its original taillights which are mounted to the sides of the rear stake pockets. The 1968s were the first to have the federally mandated side marker lamps.

A very popular interior upgrade for these trucks is to install a bench seat from a late-model Chevy Silverado. There are also reproduction upholstery kits for recovering the factory seats. Steering wheel swaps from other GM vehicles, like this Camaro GT wheel, are an easy way to modernize the interior without spending a lot of money.

A look that isn&8217t quite as popular as it once was, but still works well, is the Pro Street pickup. The rear three-quarter view of this 1970 Chevy Stepside really accentuates the steamroller 33x19.5x15 Sportsman rear tires which are mounted on 15x14-inch wheels. A narrowed 9-inch Ford rearend with coilover suspension was used.

As 1967-1972 C/K Series trucks become more and more popular, trucks that would have been scrapped are now being saved. Don&8217t overlook longbed trucks when searching for a nice body. Good cabs are golden and you can always shorten the chassis and install a shortbed.

As popularity increases, it makes more sense to perform a complete frame-off restoration. These trucks are relatively simple, so they&8217re much easier than newer trucks to disassemble and reassemble.

Lots of these trucks came with either the 250ci or 292ci six-cylinder engines. Some speed equipment is available for these vintage Stovebolts, but it makes a lot more sense to install a small-block V-8.

Engine swaps are easy. Most mounting hardware is interchangeable so V-8 mounts (bottom) can be bolted in place of the six-cylinder mounts. The engine crossmember comes from the factory with holes for either a straight-six or V-8 engine.
