While we’re on the subject of ignition systems and hidden power, after you’ve advanced the timing and created a hotter spark, try opening up the gaps on your spark plugs in 0.010-inch increments beyond the factory specs. Stock factory electronic ignitions, such as the GM HEI, are capable of producing enough power to fire across gaps up to about 0.060 inch wide.
