This is what it takes to add button horsepower to your vehicle. The owner decided he wanted a little more flash so he upgraded to a polished bottle and quick-release tank brackets. If you feel confident and have the time you can install this yourself.

The first step is to figure...

The first step is to figure out where to install the fan spray nozzle. From years of experience, Hansen recommends placing the nozzle where it has a straight shot into the throat of the throttle body.

After marking the spot, he removed the air inlet tube and drilled the proper-sized hole. Then he installed the nozzle to face the throttle blades.

The NOS regulator works off...

The NOS regulator works off of vacuum. This is the tee used to tap into the factory fuel regulator vacuum line, which will tell the computer to add more fuel to prevent any lean conditions the N2O will produce.

Once you find a clean area...

Once you find a clean area where you can mount your solenoid assembly (so you know how to orient the solenoids and their fittings), you can start threading everything together. Hansen uses thread sealer on all the fittings to prevent leaks and to keep the threads from galling.

This is what the complete...

This is what the complete solenoid unit should look like. The third solenoid you see is for a purge line. The purge line will clear any air trapped in the lines up to the solenoids to make sure you have full pressure for more consistent uses. So Cal offers this as an option.

There are a few ways to activate...

There are a few ways to activate your nitrous system. So Cal recommends using a micro-switch setup to activate at wide open throttle. This will prevent using the nitrous when you shouldnt.

The fuel pressure safety switch...

The fuel pressure safety switch is tapped into the fuel rail at the factory test port. So Cal recommends installing the wires before you thread in the switch, since its kind of tight in there for a screwdriver.

The purge nozzle is fairly...

The purge nozzle is fairly simple, depending on where you want to install it. The owner wanted it to exit from the cowl so Hansen removed the wipers and the cowl fascia to drill a hole for the nozzle. Before he reinstalled the cowl, Hansen ran the purge line, making sure the wiper assembly wouldnt contact the line and tear it off.

To bring the wires through...

To bring the wires through the firewall Hansen uses his high-dollar professional hole punch on the rubber grommet that the factory boost-line runs through.

Now for the arming switch...

Now for the arming switch and purge button. Not wanting to put holes in the main dash area, Hansen decided to run them in the fuse panel access door. This is good for later on down the road if the truck is a lease that you have to return. This piece is cheap to replace.

Nitrous is a liquid, so bottle...

Nitrous is a liquid, so bottle orientation is important. Whenever the bottle is mounted in a lay-down position, the valve handle must be towards the front of the truck with the label facing up. This will correctly position the siphon tube inside.

Once the bottle is secure,...

Once the bottle is secure, Hansen runs the provided steel braided line. He says, The best route is to piggyback the factory fuel line. The engineers at Ford protect the fuel line from heat and from being crushed, so its about the safest place.

With everything installed,...

With everything installed, Hansen does a dry run to make sure all the solenoids are clicking. Then he fills the bottle with the happy gas.

With a flip of a switch and...

With a flip of a switch and a push of the button, the purge nozzle lets loose an impressive spray. The purge solenoid is the last in line, so if it works, its safe to say the system is good to go.
We all want more power but at what cost? We have all heard the horror stories of people hooking up nitrous to their rides, hitting the button and, instead of hearing the tires break loose, the motor lets loose. Well, technology has come a long way. Fuel injection is standard on everything and computers control it all. So nitrous is no longer the scary engine eater it once was. We heard that the pro-wrenchers at So Cal Speed Shop were going to put the laughing gas on a Lightning. We had to be there. These trucks are already pretty damn fast, so we were excited, to say the least. We watched as N2O guru Arron Hansen installed Holleys 125hp nitrous oxide systems kit on Fords muscle truck.
