The first step to install... The first step to install our Speed Demon carburetor was to assemble the supplied fuel line kit and mount it to the carburetor. The Demon is designed to allow jet changes in each bowl without the removal of the fuel line. |
Next we slid the Demon on... Next we slid the Demon on top of the 450hp 427 Chevy big-block. The patented, contoured, and radiused design of the Demons venturi air entry helps give the carb its great throttle response. |
With the Demon secured to... With the Demon secured to the intake manifold we continued by assembling the fuel delivery line. All the fittings are O-ringed for a safe, leak-free operation. |
To keep the engine super sano,... To keep the engine super sano, we bent these hard lines to the contour of the engine, making sure not to contact any surfaces. |
There are many different options... There are many different options for routing the accelerator return spring, but we chose this small bracket to keep things close to the carb. This will keep everything under the air cleaner, continuing our uncluttered look. |
With the dual return springs... With the dual return springs in place, we connected our throttle linkage. We adjusted the throttle arm until it was running horizontal and straight-forward in relation to the carburetor. |
Our final step was to check... Our final step was to check that the linkage operated through to full-throttle with no obstructions, and that the pedal had a mechanical stop when the carb was fully open. |
Are you having nightmares about the jumble of wires and multiple fuel lines that are necessary to put a reliable and efficient fuel injection system on your motor? If you want an easy bolt-on solution, your answer is a Demon, more specifically one of the four new pieces from Demon Carburetion.
These slick new carburetors not only look good; they make your engine run even better. The Demon carburetors were specifically designed for easy tuning, as well as being more forgiving to high-performance engines than a delicate and temperamental fuel injection system. Another advantage over a costly injection system, the well-designed Demon carbs are priced reasonably enough to leave some money in your pocket to burn up a whole bunch of fossil remains.
For our install on a 69 L-88 450hp 427ci Chevy big-block, we chose an 850-cfm Speed Demon to supply the race gas to the 12.5:1 monster. From the first firing, the Demon made the engine run great straight out of the box.
Our original intent was to provide some before and after dyno numbers on this install, but before we could finish up with some fine tuning and get back onto the dyno, some dirt bag loser stole the wicked El Camino that the engine was installed in from a swap meet parking lot. So for right now follow along as we show you how simple it is to bolt down a Demon.
