Scrapin' the Coast has been going on now for 5 years and has become the fastest growing show in the south, perhaps even the country. Despite some on-again/off-again rain showers on Saturday the show was a huge success and, for the first time, included indoor vehicle displays and vendor booths. In addition to the slick rides and tons of vendors on hand the crowds were entertained all weekend long by numerous events put on by the STC crew including a burnout competition, live bands, and drag racing at the Gulfport Dragway. The track was also host to the STC bikini contest and after-party (I use the word 'bikini' loosely as this contest is known for getting pretty wild).
Sunday was a typical brutal hot & humid southern summer day but this didn't slow down the steady flow of spectators rolling into the show. Once again the grounds had filled to capacity and pretty soon it was time for awards with the guys from STC handing out some of the coolest trophies around. The 'Best Of' trophies were all custom-painted wake boards while the club participation awards were 8', 6', and 4' surfboards painted in designs just as cool as the others.
Next year's event is already being planned and will be held at what will be the newly renovated Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Keep an eye on www.scrapinthecoast.com for all of the details and be sure and make plans to make the trek out for 2009!
